Equity Market Outlook
- Market has been quiet lately as investors prefer to stay on the sidelines before the outcome of the US election next month.
- The Budget 2017 was within expectations as the government seeks to reduce the budget deficit to 3.0% next year.
- We maintain our view that Malaysia would be the least susceptible to external shocks compared to other ASEAN peers as Malaysia saw the smallest foreign inflows YTD.
Fixed Income Outlook
- The 2017 budget announcement on Oct 21 reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to fiscal consolidation. However revenue assumptions were considered aggressive and it remains to be seen if they can be achieved.
- Overall, the budget was in line with investors’ expectation and the bond market rose slightly by 1-2bps.
